Mr. James Muhindo

ElijahA trained legal practitioner and human rights advocate for transparency and good governance of Uganda’s Natural Resources. James holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Bar Course) from the Law Development Centre and is currently a Master of Laws (LLM) Candidate at Makerere University School of Laws.

As a committed human rights activist, James has for over five years worked with civil society organizations, Coalitions and Networks to advance human rights and good governance of land and other natural resources at both national and regional level. He has also played an active role in legal and policy reform advocacy on land, Oil, Gas and mining in Uganda. He is currently pursuing a Public Interest Litigation case against the Attorney General on the inhuman nature of Land Evictions in Uganda. He has done and been part of various research studies and published a number of articles, on Land, Oil, gas and mining in Uganda.

Previous, James worked with Global Rights Alert where he managed a Program on Enhancing Citizenry Participation in Natural Resource Governance, and also Chaired CSCO’s Legal, Policy and Governance Thematic Group. He has also worked with the Human Rights and Peace Centre (HURIPEC), The Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC) and Development Law Associates (DLA). James is a pioneer member of the Network of Public Interest Lawyers (NETPIL) an umbrella body for Ugandan lawyers, NGOs and Law Firms that engage in Human Rights and Public Interest advocacy, where he chairs the Land and Natural Resource Working Group.
