The Economic Governance programme aim at strengthening economic policies and institutions to achieve economic transformation of Africa with special focus on Eastern and Southern African economies. The Program places emphasis on the effective implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 1, 5, 8, and 10: End poverty in all its forms everywhere; Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all; and Reduce inequality within and among countries and Africa Vision 2063 and attainment of middle-income status of regional countries.
The strategic focus of the program will be achieved through: i) greater transparency and accountability of Public Financial Management, ii) Improving capacities for Local Economic Development and iii) increasing transparency and participation in formulation and implementation of trade (including regional) policies. The programme work involves policy research and analysis, facilitating citizen (including the private sector)-government engagement, capacity building and advocacy and outreach.
The strategic objective of the program is to strengthen public finance manage-ment and increasing economic opportunities for women, men and youth.
