The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Biotechnology Policy Programme is the ACODE programme that deals with policy related issues in the areas of agriculture, access to and management of genetic resources, science and technology, and intellectual property rights. The programme activities are intended to inform and influence policy decision making processes in the above areas to ensure that they are responsive to the needs of the local communities.
 
Organic foodstuff

The programme activities aim at achieving three major objectives viz.,

   
Promotion of science and technology relevant to the needs of countries in Eastern and Southern Africa, in particular, smallholder farmers
 
Democratization of the policy making processes in the areas of intellectual property rights and science and technology (especially biotechnology and biosafety)
 
Development of national, regional and international biotechnology and biosafety policies and legal frameworks that serve the needs of countries in Eastern and Southern Africa and promote a better understanding of such frameworks and their implications for countries in the region.
